The University of Kelaniya has retained its remarkable standing as one of Sri Lanka's top Green Universities in the prestigious UI GreenMetric World University Rankings. While the university has been ranked second in Sri Lanka for 2024, it proudly holds a global position of 228.

University of Kelaniya (UOK) was ranked no 1 Green University, among the Sri Lankan Universities in UI GreenMetric Ranking 2023. Further, UOK has been able to advance in its global rank from 241 in 2022 to 226 in 2023, out of the 1084 universities which applied for the UI GreenMetric Ranking in 2023. Center for Sustainability Solution (CSS) submits UI GreenMetric Ranking application for UOK. The UI GreenMetric rankings were based on the performance from Oct. 2022 to Oct. 2023 and the total rankings and scores obtained by the University of Kelaniya and other Sri Lankan Universities are as follows:
